SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Frank James Kerous IV, who passed
4away on July 29, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Kerous was born to Frank and Lucille
6(Christopher) Kerous on March 26, 1940; he graduated from
7Morton High School in 1957, where he excelled at academics and
8swimming and was the editor in chief of the 1957 Mortonian
9yearbook; he attended Knox College in Galesburg, where he
10continued to swim with the swimming team; he was also a member
11of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity; he married Sandra Erland
12on March 16, 1968; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Kerous attended the University of Illinois at
14Chicago, where he obtained a doctoral degree in dental surgery,
15followed by two years of specialty training in periodontics; he
16was one of the first periodontists in the Chicago suburbs,
17maintaining offices in Arlington Heights and Oak Brook for many
18years; he began teaching at the University of Illinois at
19Chicago in 1964, where he spent 38 years in the Department of
20Periodontics, eventually becoming a tenured faculty member;
21after retirement, he was the Clinical Director of Periodontics
22and spent most of his time preparing senior students for board
23examination; he and his wife opened and operated McDonald's

1franchises in the Glenview area in the late 1970s; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dr. Kerous and his wife were early members of
3Christ Church of Oak Brook; he was secretary of the board of
4elders for many years and the principal architect of the Christ
5Church endowment fund in 1980; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Kerous was elected a trustee of Knox College
7in 1974, and made a life trustee in 2009; he was President of
8the Knox alumni association from 1974 to 1976, and chaired
9three capital fund drives; he was made an Honor Delta TKE in
101978; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Kerous is survived by his wife, Sandra; his
12children, Karen (Richard) Kooy, Kathryn (David) Voss, and Frank
13(Emily) Kerous V; and his grandchildren, Luke, Julia, Joshua,
14Matthew, Elliana, Carrigan, and Annabel; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Dr. Frank James Kerous IV, and extend our sincere condolences
18to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
19it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Dr. Kerous as an expression of our
