| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Burt Olsson of Park Ridge, who passed |
| 4 | | away on August 26, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Burt Olsson was one of the founders of the Kalo |
| 6 | | Foundation, which was established in 2006 to preserve Park |
| 7 | | Ridge's art history and educate the public; he, along with |
| 8 | | others, visited Park Ridge third-graders and high school art |
| 9 | | students to speak to them about Park Ridge's art history, |
| 10 | | focusing on the hand-wrought silver works of the Kalo Shop, |
| 11 | | which created jewelry, bowls, utensils, crafts, and other items |
| 12 | | during the early 20th century; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Burt Olsson's knowledge came from his father, |
| 14 | | Yngve Olsson, a Scandinavian immigrant who worked as a |
| 15 | | silversmith at the Kalo Shop's Chicago location; Yngve Olsson |
| 16 | | went on to become a co-owner of the Kalo Shop in 1959; the shop |
| 17 | | closed for good in 1970; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Burt Olsson was also involved in the now defunct |
| 19 | | Park Ridge Gilbert and Sullivan Society, which staged operas by |
| 20 | | the Victorian-era team of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan; |
