| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Peter Francis Schopen Sr. of McHenry, who |
| 4 | | passed away on August 12, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Peter Schopen Sr. was born in Evanston to Peter N. |
| 6 | | and Eugenia (Lundy) Schopen on October 20, 1946; he attended |
| 7 | | St. Joseph Grade School and later entered the United States |
| 8 | | Army as a Paratrooper in January of 1964, achieving the rank of |
| 9 | | Sergeant E5; he married Sandra Firestone at St. Monica Church |
| 10 | | in Carpentersville on August 12, 1978; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Peter Schopen Sr. worked for Orkin, where he |
| 12 | | became one of the top salesman in the entire country; pest |
| 13 | | control became his passion, and in 1974, he started the |
| 14 | | Algonquin-based Mid Central Pest Control, which became one of |
| 15 | | the most successful pest control companies in the Chicagoland |
| 16 | | region for over 40 years; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Peter Schopen Sr. was a member of Holy Apostles |
| 18 | | Catholic Church; he flew hand gliders and ultralight airplanes; |
| 19 | | he was an expert fisherman, an avid golfer, and a top bowler; |
| 20 | | he was a member of the VFW and the Lake in the Hills Lions Club; |
| 21 | | and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Peter Schopen Sr. was preceded in death by his |
| 2 | | parents and his sister, Lois Constance; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Peter Schopen Sr. is survived by his wife, Sandy; |
| 4 | | his children, Brenda (Joe) Sparks, Pete (Tami) Schopen, Sonja |
| 5 | | Schopen, Anita (Mark) Pomazak, Dayle Schopen, Drake (Josie) |
| 6 | | Schopen, and Eric (Joanna) Schopen Sr.; his grandchildren, |
| 7 | | Peter (Trey) Schopen III, Caleb Schopen, Candace Lane, Hillary |
| 8 | | Knaack, Julia Schopen, Eric Schopen Jr., Dylan Schopen, Alex |
| 9 | | Pomazak, Abbie Childs, Nikki Pomazak, Luc Pomazak, Josh Smoot, |
| 10 | | Kayla Smoot, Ethan Marx, Kassie Marx, Alicia Marx, Thylor |
| 11 | | Schopen, Parys Schopen, Willie Gonzales Jr., Alonso Gonzales, |
| 12 | | and Grace Schopen; his great-grandchildren, Brendan Lane, Emma |

| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 19 | | Peter Francis Schopen Sr., and extend our sincere condolences |
| 20 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
| 21 | | it further
