SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Clifton E. "Gene" Black of Taylorville,
4who passed away on September 27, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Clifton Black was born on August 25, 1931 in
6Haleyville, Alabama; his parents were William Isaac and Grace
7Black; he married Carol Mathon on June 5, 1955 in Taylorville;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Clifton Black was a veteran of the United States
10Army and was stationed in Germany; and
 
11    WHEREAS, As a young man, Clifton Black was a broadcast
12engineer for WTIM in Taylorville and WMAY in Springfield and a
13television repairman at Higgason TV and Appliance; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Clifton Black and his wife spent many hours
15remodeling houses for his children and grandchildren, which
16taught them the value of hard work and dedication; in his later
17years, he became the project manager of house remodeling and
18new construction builds, watching his family follow in his
19footsteps; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Clifton Black was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and

1enjoyed watching them win their 100th game this season; he also
2enjoyed spending time with his family; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Clifton Black was preceded in death by his
4parents; three brothers; and one sister; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Clifton Black is survived by his wife of 61 years,
6Carol Black; his children, Susan (George) Calvert, Jane
7Griffith, Doug (Carla) Black, Lisa (Dan) Nieves, and Lori
8Smothers; his grandchildren, Amy (Ben) Winans, Aaron (fiancee
9Malissa) Calvert, Keri (Lee) Mateer, Kati Griffith, Ryne
10Griffith, Blake Thomas, Connor Black, Jodi (Aaron) Acree,
11Cassidy Nieves, Reagan Nieves, Adan Nieves, Livia Nieves, Jesse
12(Kayla) Smothers, and Jacob Smothers; his great-grandchildren,
13Eric, Travis, and Lilly Winans, Ellee, Emlyn, Eileen, and
14Eloise Mateer, Carter Thomas, Jayden, Adalyn, and Amelia Acree,
15and Ryker and Hadley Smothers; his sisters, Marie Marbutt, Faye
16(Leon) Patterson, and Joan (Jerry) Pinta; and many nieces and
17nephews; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
20family and friends, mourn the passing of Clifton E. "Gene"
21Black; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
