SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph Michael "Mike" McKeon of Joliet,
4who passed away on September 15, 2016 at the age of 73; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph McKeon was a veteran of the United States
6Navy; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joseph McKeon was an esteemed political
8strategist, pollster, and analyst whose advice was sought by
9Republicans and Democrats alike; countless state and national
10political organizations depended on him to have the pulse of
11the electorate and relied on his bluntness, street smarts and
12political savvy; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Joseph McKeon formed his global public opinion
14research and strategic marketing firm, McKeon and Associates,
15in 1973; his polling and analysis of the changing American
16cultural paradigm have been featured in nearly all major media
17outlets around the globe; he led research and strategy for more
18than 700 political candidates on both sides of the aisle and
19had major corporate clients such as Gatorade, Commonwealth
20Edison, Walmart, and the Chicago Bulls; he also served as a
21political script consultant on Saturday Night Live for many
22years; and

1    WHEREAS, Joseph McKeon polled national and statewide races
2from coast to coast; he was nationally recognized for his
3astute ability to identify national and international trends
4and bake them into winning marketing and political strategies;
5he was also ahead of his time in analyzing moods and trends
6among voters and penned a 1994 Washington Post column in which
7he outlined the evolving media landscape and the way digital
8technology was supplanting traditional forms of
9communications; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Joseph McKeon is survived by his daughters, Meghan
11(Bucky) Moreno and Zora Baron; his grandchildren, Sophia and
12Isabella Moreno and Joe and Lauren; his siblings, Linda
13(Kenneth) Joslin, Lynn (Edward) Masters, Robert (Linda)
14Conrad, and Cary J. Conrad; many nieces and nephews; and his
15faithful friends, Jimmy Wheeler and Tim McAnarney; therefore,
16be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
19family and friends, mourn the passing of Joseph Michael "Mike"
20McKeon; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Joseph McKeon as an expression of
