| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Staff Sergeant Christopher Alexander | ||||||
| 4 | Wilbur of Fort Carson, Colorado, who passed away on August 12, | ||||||
| 5 | 2016 in Kandahar, Afghanistan; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Wilbur was born in Granite City on | ||||||
| 7 | February 26, 1980; he graduated from Granite City High School | ||||||
| 8 | in 1998 and married Lindsey Angele Bishop in Clarksville, | ||||||
| 9 | Tennessee on October 30, 2009; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Wilbur joined the United States Army on | ||||||
| 11 | June 8, 2005; he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry | ||||||
| 12 | Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, in | ||||||
| 13 | Fort Carson, Colorado; he was deployed to Iraq from December 9, | ||||||
| 14 | 2005 to December 11, 2006, and September 23, 2007 to November | ||||||
| 15 | 20, 2008; he was deployed to Afghanistan from January 30, 2010 | ||||||
| 16 | to February 6, 2011 and February 2016 to August 12, 2016; his | ||||||
| 17 | military occupational specialty was indirect fire infantryman | ||||||
| 18 | and member of the mortar squad; he was awarded four Army | ||||||
| 19 | Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, four Army | ||||||
| 20 | Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, two | ||||||
| 21 | Afghanistan Campaign Medals with Campaign Star, an Iraq | ||||||
| 22 | Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, a Global War on Terrorism | ||||||
| 23 | Service Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Ribbons, | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | a NATO Medal, a Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, a Combat | ||||||
| 2 | Infantryman Badge, and an Air Assault Badge; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Wilbur was a history buff and an avid | ||||||
| 4 | reader; he loved the outdoors and cherished days camping, | ||||||
| 5 | hiking, rock climbing, and snowboarding; he enjoyed playing | ||||||
| 6 | chess, watching baseball, and rooting for the St. Louis | ||||||
| 7 | Cardinals; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Wilbur was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 9 | grandparents, Ronald and Gladys Wilbur; his stepfather, Steve; | ||||||
| 10 | and his uncle, Robin Wilbur; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Wilbur is survived by his wife, | ||||||
| 12 | Lindsey; his children, Alexander Wilbur, and Susanna Happy | ||||||
| 13 | Wilbur; his father and stepmother, Richard and Phyliss Wilbur; | ||||||
| 14 | his mother, Peggy (Bischoff) King; his sister and | ||||||
| 15 | brother-in-law, Rachael and Dan VanTassell; his brother, | ||||||
| 16 | Matthew George; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Susan and | ||||||
| 17 | Wayne Yarrow; other extended family, brothers-in-arms, and | ||||||
| 18 | many friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 21 | Staff Sergeant Christopher Alexander Wilbur, and extend our | ||||||
| 22 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||

| 1 | and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 3 | presented to the family of Staff Sgt. Wilbur as an expression | ||||||
