SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Iberia Beatrice Hampton, who passed away on October 16, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was born on February 5, 1922 in Haynesville, Louisiana; her parents were Elihue and Lizzie White; she married Francis Allen Hampton in November of 1944; and

WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton graduated from elementary school and high school in Haynesville, Louisiana and attended Grambling College; and

WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton retired from Corn Products in Argo after many years of service as a union steward; and

WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was a committed activist who was involved in many civil rights and community organizations; she was also famous for her "down-home" cooking, which fed countless people in her neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was baptized and raised as a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Haynesville, Louisiana; after moving to Illinois, she became a longtime member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Morgan Park; she later joined Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood; and

WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, and her son, Frederick "Fred"; and

WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton is survived by her children, William "Bill" and Delores Smith; her grandchildren, Fred Hampton, Jr., Danard (Regina) Edwards, and Octavia Smith; her great-grandchildren, Tanetra (Derek) Patterson, Byron, Khadiyah, Danard Jr. (Juanita), and Tanyia; her great-great-grandchildren, Damijaek, Dontrell, Daisha, Deron, Destin, Makeilia, Rodney, Danariah, Danard III, Daniya, Danila, and Danilo; her godsons, Marvin, Willie, and Chester; her special niece, Betty Ann; her special friends, the Herring family, Emma Anderson, Kevin Johnson, Dolores J. Smith, Bill Taylor, Jeff Haas, Flint Taylor, and James Montgomery; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Iberia Beatrice Hampton; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Iberia Hampton as an expression of our sympathy.
