SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Iberia Beatrice Hampton, who passed away
4on October 16, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was born on February 5, 1922 in
6Haynesville, Louisiana; her parents were Elihue and Lizzie
7White; she married Francis Allen Hampton in November of 1944;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton graduated from elementary school
10and high school in Haynesville, Louisiana and attended
11Grambling College; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton retired from Corn Products in Argo
13after many years of service as a union steward; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was a committed activist who was
15involved in many civil rights and community organizations; she
16was also famous for her "down-home" cooking, which fed
17countless people in her neighborhood; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was baptized and raised as a member
19of the Bethel Baptist Church in Haynesville, Louisiana; after
20moving to Illinois, she became a longtime member of Mt. Calvary

1Baptist Church in Morgan Park; she later joined Rock of Ages
2Baptist Church in Maywood; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was preceded in death by her
4husband, Francis, and her son, Frederick "Fred"; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton is survived by her children,
6William "Bill" and Delores Smith; her grandchildren, Fred
7Hampton, Jr., Danard (Regina) Edwards, and Octavia Smith; her
8great-grandchildren, Tanetra (Derek) Patterson, Byron,
9Khadiyah, Danard Jr. (Juanita), and Tanyia; her
10great-great-grandchildren, Damijaek, Dontrell, Daisha, Deron,
11Destin, Makeilia, Rodney, Danariah, Danard III, Daniya,
12Danila, and Danilo; her godsons, Marvin, Willie, and Chester;
13her special niece, Betty Ann; her special friends, the Herring
14family, Emma Anderson, Kevin Johnson, Dolores J. Smith, Bill
15Taylor, Jeff Haas, Flint Taylor, and James Montgomery; and many
16other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
20family and friends, mourn the passing of Iberia Beatrice
21Hampton; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
