SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bert D. Carlson of Rock Island, who
4passed away on October 24, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bert Carlson was born on June 28, 1925 in Galva;
6his parents were Clyde C. and Ethel Griggs Carlson; he married
7Gladys J. Clure on November 12, 1950 at Central Presbyterian
8Church in Rock Island; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Bert Carlson worked as a procurement officer for
10the Rock Island Arsenal for 33 years until his retirement in
111982; he also worked for Case IH for three years and taught
12students to play the organ; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Bert Carlson proudly served in the United States
14Navy as a Ship's Cook, Third Class during World War II; he was
15honorably discharged in 1945 and later became a member of
16Moline American Legion Post 246; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Bert Carlson was an active member of First United
18Presbyterian Church and Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church,
19where he was a choir member for many years; he was also a
20member of Davenport Moose Lodge No. 28 and Quad City Organist
21Society; and

1    WHEREAS, Bert Carlson enjoyed playing the organ for private
2parties and for Friendship Manor; he also liked cooking,
3dancing, decorating the outdoors for Christmas, and working
4outdoors; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bert Carlson was preceded in death by his parents;
6his daughter, Karen Lynn Carlson; and his brothers, Curtis
7Carlson and Richard Carlson; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bert Carlson is survived by his wife, Gladys
9Carlson; his daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Todd
10Vandersnick and Julie and Bruce Romero; his grandchildren,
11Orterio Villa, Scott Villa, Jeremy Romero, Bethany and Idris
12Okere, and Caitlin Vandersnick; his sister-in-law, Rose
13Carlson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be
14it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
17family and friends, mourn the passing of Bert D. Carlson; and
18be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Bert Carlson as an expression of our
21sympathy.
