SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Nurse practitioners are advanced practice
3registered nurses who have advanced clinical education and
4training building upon their initial registered nurse
5preparation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, There are 222,000 licensed nurse practitioners in
7the United States, and 8,270 in Illinois providing primary,
8acute, and specialty care to patients of all ages and walks of
9life; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Nurse practitioners diagnose, treat, and
11prescribe medications and other treatments to patients through
12a caring, patient-centered, holistic model of care; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Citizens of our State and nation have great trust
14in the high-quality care nurse practitioners provide,
15resulting in more than 870 million patient visits annually to
16nurse practitioners across the country; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Five decades of research demonstrates the high
18quality of care provided by nurse practitioners; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Nurse practitioners have master's degrees, and
20many have doctoral degrees, as well as advanced education and

1clinical training and are able to provide high quality care to
2three or more patients per hour; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Nurse practitioners practice in settings
4including hospital inpatient clinics, private group practices,
5long-term care facilities, mental health facilities and many
6others; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Better utilization of nurse practitioners creates
8a more accessible, efficient, cost-effective, and higher
9quality health care system; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Illinois is proud to recognize and honor the
11service of nurse practitioners to our State; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare November 13 -
1419, 2016 as Nurse Practitioner Week in the State of Illinois
15in recognition of the countless contributions that nurse
16practitioners have made over the past half century and will
17continue to make to the health and well-being of citizens in
18our State; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
20presented to the Illinois Nurses Association and the Illinois
21Society for Advanced Practice Nursing.
