SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Glen A. Marcum, who passed away on November 1, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Glen Marcum was born in Joliet and attended Cunningham Grade School and Hufford Junior High; he graduated from Joliet Central High School in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Glen Marcum worked as an auto mechanic for 39 years at Bertino's Auto in Joliet; and

WHEREAS, Glen Marcum devoted countless years of his life to the Joliet community; he was a volunteer basketball coach at St. Paul the Apostle School and spent three terms on the Joliet Grade School Board of School Inspectors; he served as President of the Greater Joliet Youth Foundation and President of the Instrumental Music Parents Association; he participated with the Joliet Relay for Life for 15 years, five as Chair; he was Co-Chair for the American Cancer Society Regional Board, President of the Joliet Township High School Athletic Boosters, and Co-Chair of the Joliet Township High School Strategic Plan Committee; he was head judge of the Will County Spelling Contest; he was a Big Brother with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and a member of Take Back the Night committee; he was a volunteer at Daybreak Shelter and instrumental in establishing the Joliet Grade Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence, where he served as President; he was a political analyst for WJOL, and served two terms with the Joliet Park District, three years as President; he served on the City Center Partnership Christmas Parade Committee and as a Right Moves for Youth Board Member; he was a member of the Old Timers Baseball Association and Men Who Cook; and

WHEREAS, Glen Marcum was preceded in death by his mother, Twila (Florey) Marcum, and his brothers, Richard Marcum, and Randy Marcum; and

WHEREAS, Glen Marcum is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia (Seeman) Marcum; his children, Brett (Samantha) Marcum, Patrick Marcum, Allison (Ben) Gunnink, and Tyler (Beth) Marcum; his father, James R. Marcum; his siblings, Brad (Kim) Marcum and Diane (Dave) Zuelke; his sisters-in-law, Jennianne Marcum, and Donna (Tony) Spillie; his brothers-in-law, Bill (Vicky) Seeman, Ray (Janette) Seeman, and Michael Seeman; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Glen A. Marcum, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Glen Marcum as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
