SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States between infancy and age 15; one in five children will die from the disease; and

WHEREAS, The leading causes of childhood cancer are largely unknown; and

WHEREAS, The level of support and funding for childhood cancer research has not reached the same level as other cancer awareness campaigns; and

WHEREAS, The concept for the G9 was created by Annie (only 11-years-old at the time) who saw the nation turn pink in October for breast cancer; she became determined to turn the world "Gold in September" for kids battling cancer; G9 is a national effort to raise awareness and financial support for childhood cancer research and the development of new treatments; and

WHEREAS, A recent proclamation signed by President Obama declared September of 2016 as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we encourage all citizens, government agencies, private businesses, and non-profit organizations to join together in activities that will increase awareness and prevention of childhood cancer; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we urge the United States Congress and President Obama to drastically increase the level of funding provided for childhood cancer research; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the American Cancer Fund for Children, the Kids Cancer Connection, President Barack Obama, United States Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, and United States Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
