SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Darius Dean Harms of Flatville, who
4passed away on July 21, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Darius Harms was born in Champaign County to Wilke
6M. and Anna J. (Huls) Harms on August 27, 1937; he married Lois
7L. Busboom in Royal on May 31, 1969; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Darius Harms farmed in the Flatville area his
9entire life; he enjoyed sharing his love of farming and
10tractors with others and often demonstrated the progress of
11farming from the early 1900s to the current time; he was among
12the founding members of the Half Century of Progress Show and
13was superintendent of tractor pull events at the Champaign
14County Fair for over 40 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Darius Harms was a lifelong member of Immanuel
16Lutheran Church of Flatville, serving as council President and
17on the Historical Committee for many years; he was a founding
18member of the Illinois Tractor Pulling Association and the
19National Tractor Pullers Association, and was an honorary
20Kentucky Colonel; he was a longtime member of the I&I Antique
21Tractor and Gas Engine Club and the International Harvester
22Collectors Club Chapter 10; and

1    WHEREAS, Darius Harms was preceded in death by his parents;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Darius Harms is survived by his wife, Lois; his
4children, Teri (Paul) Travis, Toni (Jeff) Brown, Derek Harms,
5and Dirk (Audrey) Harms; his grandchildren, Abby Harms, Brett
6Brown, Hallie Harms, Brooks Brown, Brodie Harms, Bryce Brown,
7Korinne Travis, and Kelsie Harms; his sister, Marlys (Greg)
8Cooper; his brother and sister-in-law, Les (Sheila) Busboom;
9and five nephews; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Darius Dean Harms, and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Darius Harms as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
