SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of George Warren Kenney of Springfield, who
4passed away on December 16, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Kenney was born in Springfield to Charles
6Marshall and Alberta Mae Hillyard Kenney on June 4, 1937; he
7graduated from Springfield High School in 1955, where he played
8basketball, football, and baseball and played in the State
9Basketball Tournament; he earned his bachelor's degree from
10Millikin University in Decatur, where he played basketball, and
11was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity; he earned
12his Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School in Chicago;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, George Kenney was an attorney in Springfield for
15more than 50 years, primarily with the firm Kenney & Pearson;
16he was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the
17Sangamon County Bar Association; and
 
18    WHEREAS, George Kenney joined the American Business Club in
19January of 1967, where he served as President from 1975 to
201976, and became a life member in August of 1984; he enjoyed
21running and competed in three marathons; he also enjoyed
22golfing and his annual fishing trips to Bennett Springs,

1Missouri for the past 50 years; he was a regular patron at his
2favorite watering hole, where he enjoyed stimulating
3conversations and watching sports with his many friends; and
 
4    WHEREAS, George Kenney was preceded in death by his parents
5and his grandson, Zachary Clark; and
 
6    WHEREAS, George Kenney is survived by his son, Brian
7(Carolyn) Kenney; his daughters, Kara (Keith) Sias, and Jill
8Kenney; his grandchildren, Amanda (George) Metcalf, Matthew
9and Krista Kenney, and Holly and David Sias; his
10great-grandchildren, Gabe, Roman, and Freya Metcalf; his
11brother, Charles "Bud" (Janet) Kenney, M.D.; several nieces,
12nephews, and cousins; and many members of the Maloy and Gietl
13families; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16George Warren Kenney, and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of George Kenney as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
