SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lawrence "Ken" Kensick of Crystal Lake,
4who passed away on November 7, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to
6John and Kathleen (Robel) Kensick on July 17, 1937; he married
7Maureen Ann Croxton in 1965; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick joined the Royal Canadian Air
9Force (RCAF) in 1955 as an officer and fighter pilot flying the
10F-86 and F-104; during his service, he deployed to Germany and
11France as part of the NATO defensive operations countering the
12Soviet Union; after leaving the RCAF in 1965, he was hired as a
13pilot at United Airlines in Detroit, Michigan; he moved to
14Seattle in 1966; he moved to Crystal Lake in 1968 where he
15remained for the remainder of his career; he had a diverse
16flying career at United Airlines, flying the DC-7, DC-8, 727,
17DC-10, 757, 767, and finishing up on the 747; he retired in
181997 from United, logging over 20,000 hours of flight time; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick remained in Crystal Lake after
20his retirement; he continued to pursue his passions of
21motorcycle riding, flying his Cessna 170, and restoring a 1929
22Model A; he was seen almost daily working out at Health Bridge

1and later in life developed a love of fishing and golf; in the
2last few years, he and his wife began to split their time
3between Crystal Lake and their winter home in Naples, Florida;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick had an enduring interest in
6hockey; he played in an adult league, was one of the founding
7members of the Crystal Lake Hockey Club, where he served as
8Club president and coached his three sons; he enjoyed watching
9his two grandsons begin their hockey careers; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick was preceded in death by his
11siblings, Walter, Millie, Marg, and Eileen; and his parents;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick is survived by his wife, Maureen;
14his sons, Stephen (Julie), Michael (Robyn), and David (Anita)
15Kensick; his grandchildren, Rachel, Grace, Eric, Jared,
16Holden, and Calvin; and his siblings, Stan (Thelma), Evelyn,
17and Jerry; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
20family and friends, mourn the passing of Lawrence "Ken"
21Kensick, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
22friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

2presented to the family of Lawrence Kensick as an expression of
3our deepest sympathy.
