2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Lawrence "Ken" Kensick of Crystal Lake, |
4 | | who passed away on November 7, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to |
6 | | John and Kathleen (Robel) Kensick on July 17, 1937; he married |
7 | | Maureen Ann Croxton in 1965; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick joined the Royal Canadian Air |
9 | | Force (RCAF) in 1955 as an officer and fighter pilot flying the |
10 | | F-86 and F-104; during his service, he deployed to Germany and |
11 | | France as part of the NATO defensive operations countering the |
12 | | Soviet Union; after leaving the RCAF in 1965, he was hired as a |
13 | | pilot at United Airlines in Detroit, Michigan; he moved to |
14 | | Seattle in 1966; he moved to Crystal Lake in 1968 where he |
15 | | remained for the remainder of his career; he had a diverse |
16 | | flying career at United Airlines, flying the DC-7, DC-8, 727, |
17 | | DC-10, 757, 767, and finishing up on the 747; he retired in |
18 | | 1997 from United, logging over 20,000 hours of flight time; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick remained in Crystal Lake after |
20 | | his retirement; he continued to pursue his passions of |
21 | | motorcycle riding, flying his Cessna 170, and restoring a 1929 |
22 | | Model A; he was seen almost daily working out at Health Bridge |

1 | | and later in life developed a love of fishing and golf; in the |
2 | | last few years, he and his wife began to split their time |
3 | | between Crystal Lake and their winter home in Naples, Florida; |
4 | | and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick had an enduring interest in |
6 | | hockey; he played in an adult league, was one of the founding |
7 | | members of the Crystal Lake Hockey Club, where he served as |
8 | | Club president and coached his three sons; he enjoyed watching |
9 | | his two grandsons begin their hockey careers; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick was preceded in death by his |
11 | | siblings, Walter, Millie, Marg, and Eileen; and his parents; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Kensick is survived by his wife, Maureen; |
14 | | his sons, Stephen (Julie), Michael (Robyn), and David (Anita) |
15 | | Kensick; his grandchildren, Rachel, Grace, Eric, Jared, |
16 | | Holden, and Calvin; and his siblings, Stan (Thelma), Evelyn, |
17 | | and Jerry; therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
20 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Lawrence "Ken" |
21 | | Kensick, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, |
22 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
