SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ruth M. Petersen of McHenry, who passed
4away on October 24, 2016 at the age of 87; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ruth Petersen was born in Chicago to Karl and
6Pauline Ziegler on July 17, 1929; she graduated from Kelvyn
7Park High School in Chicago and attended St. Olaf College in
8Northfield, Minnesota; she married Edward H. Petersen at St.
9Timothy Lutheran Church in Chicago on August 2, 1952; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ruth Petersen was involved in music and the church
11for over 70 years; she was a piano teacher for more than 40
12years and served in various leadership roles in the Northwest
13Suburban Music Teachers Association and the Illinois State
14Music Teachers Association; she also served in many leadership
15and volunteer positions at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church,
16including Worship and Music Chairperson, Church Council,
17Assistant Organist and singing in the choir for 50 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ruth Petersen was preceded in death by her
19husband, Edward Petersen; and her sisters, Elsie Gall and Mary
20Jane Boelens; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Ruth Petersen is survived by her loving companion,

1James Cavanaugh; her daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Boncher, Leslie
2(Scott) McGough, and Karen (Scott) Banach; her grandchildren,
3Brian Boncher, Christine (Roman) Savchenko, Rebecca McGough,
4Jessica McGough, and Michelle Banach; and her
5great-grandchildren, Cameron Boncher and Kyra Savchenko;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
9family and friends, mourn the passing of Ruth M. Petersen, and
10extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
11who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Ruth Petersen as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
