SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of the Honorable Thomas A. Schermerhorn of
4Woodstock, who passed away on December 3, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Judge Schermerhorn was born in Chicago to Harry M.
6and Margaret (Farrow) Schermerhorn on February 1, 1935; he
7attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School and graduated
8from St. George High School in 1956; he earned both his
9undergraduate and law degree from Loyola University; he married
10Patricia Byers in 1958 and they raised their children in
11Glenview and Bull Valley; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Judge Schermerhorn practiced law until he was
13appointed as an Associate Judge; he was later elected as a
14Circuit Court Judge in the 22nd Judicial District in Illinois;
15he served as a judge for 20 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Judge Schermerhorn was a talented athlete,
17swimmer, golfer, and Little League coach; he was past President
18and a longtime member of the Woodstock Country Club; he was
19also a supporter of the Marian Central Catholic High School;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Judge Schermerhorn was preceded in death by his

1brothers, Tip, Jack, and Bob; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Judge Schermerhorn is survived by his wife,
3Patricia; his children, Leslie (Bjorn) Schermerhorn, Maggie
4(Drew) McElvain, and Tom "Horn" (Renee) Schermerhorn; his
5grandchildren, Hank Stahlecker, Claire Beutel, Ned, Caroline,
6and Charlie McElvain, and Caitie, David, and Andrew
7Schermerhorn; his sisters, Nancy Van Der Bosch, Sister Mary
8Frances Schermerhorn OSB, and Margaret Schermerhorn; and his
9brother, Richard (Pat) Schermerhorn; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12the Honorable Thomas A. Schermerhorn, and extend our sincere
13condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
14him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Judge Schermerhorn as an expression
17of our deepest sympathy.
