SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lena "Lee" Gruebel of Boca Raton,
4Florida, who passed away on March 1, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lena Gruebel was born in New York City to Jules
6and Tillie Jacobson on September 23, 1918; she married Solomon
7Gruebel in 1945; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lena Gruebel worked as an editor for three
9scientific medical journals published in New York City; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lena Gruebel served as President of the Parent
11Teacher Association at Public School 94 in New York City; she
12was a Girl Scout troop leader, President of ORT America
13chapters in The Bronx, Queens, and Boca Raton, and President of
14Hadassah chapters in The Bronx and Boca Raton; she was a member
15of The Bronx school board and President of the Board of B-G
16Girls, which provided Christmas gifts for a nearby orphanage;
17she served on the boards of countless other non-profit
18organizations; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lena Gruebel enjoyed crossword puzzles and
20multiple word seek and variety word puzzle books weekly; she
21wrote speeches for presentations to various organizations,

1delivered impromptu speeches, and made sure a dictionary was
2available and used daily by her children; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lena Gruebel was preceded in death by her husband
4of 56 years, Solomon; her brother, Lou; her sister, Sarah; and
5her daughter, Eileen Breier; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lena Gruebel is survived by her son, Jerold
7(Paula); eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and
8her brother, Harry Jacobson; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Lena "Lee" Gruebel, and extend our sincere condolences to her
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Lena Gruebel as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
