2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2981 by replacing | ||||||
3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4 | "Section 5. The Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963 is | ||||||
5 | amended by adding the heading of Article 113A and Section | ||||||
6 | 113A-1 as follows: | ||||||
7 | (725 ILCS 5/Art. 113A heading new) | ||||||
8 | ARTICLE 113A. SPECIAL ADVOCATES | ||||||
9 | (725 ILCS 5/113A-1 new) | ||||||
10 | Sec. 113A-1. Special advocates. In a county with a | ||||||
11 | population of more than 3,000,000 inhabitants for the | ||||||
12 | prosecution of a case involving the injury, health, or safety | ||||||
13 | of an animal, the court may, on its own motion or motion of any | ||||||
14 | party, appoint a special advocate to assist the court, as | ||||||
15 | deemed appropriate by the court, and represent the interests of |

| |||||||
1 | justice regarding the health or safety of the animal. If the | ||||||
2 | court appoints a special advocate in the case, the court may | ||||||
3 | select from a list of pro bono attorneys and law students | ||||||
4 | compiled by the Cook County Sheriff's Office, in partnership | ||||||
5 | with local and State bar associations for that purpose. ".
