2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3293 by replacing | ||||||
3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4 | "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by | ||||||
5 | changing Section 12-806 as follows:
| ||||||
6 | (625 ILCS 5/12-806) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-806)
| ||||||
7 | Sec. 12-806.
| ||||||
8 | (a) Identification, stop signal arms and special lighting | ||||||
9 | when
not used as a school bus. Except as provided in Section | ||||||
10 | 12-806a,
whenever a school bus is operated for the purpose of | ||||||
11 | transporting
passengers other than persons in connection with | ||||||
12 | an activity of the school
or religious organization which owns | ||||||
13 | the school bus or for which the school
bus is operated, the | ||||||
14 | "SCHOOL BUS" signs shall be covered or concealed and
the stop | ||||||
15 | signal arm and flashing signal system shall not be operable
| ||||||
16 | through normal controls.

1 | (b) Except as provided in Section 12-806a, whenever a | ||||||
2 | school district or religious organization, or a school bus | ||||||
3 | vendor or school bus company with a main source of income from | ||||||
4 | contracting with a school district or religious organization | ||||||
5 | for transportation services in connection with the school | ||||||
6 | district or religious organization, discards a school bus | ||||||
7 | through sale or donation to an individual or entity not | ||||||
8 | specified under this subsection (b), the individual or entity | ||||||
9 | shall immediately remove, cover, or conceal the "SCHOOL BUS" | ||||||
10 | signs and any other insignia or words indicating the vehicle is | ||||||
11 | a school bus, render inoperable or remove entirely the stop | ||||||
12 | signal arm and flashing signal system, and paint the bus a | ||||||
13 | color different from those under Section 12-801 of this Code. | ||||||
