AMENDMENT TO HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 33 


2    AMENDMENT NO. ___.  Amend House Joint Resolution 33 by 
3deleting everything and replacing it with the following:
 
4    "WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
5Representatives wish to congratulate the World Champion 
6Chicago Cubs on winning an epic World Series on November 3, 
72016; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Chicago Cubs last won the World Series in 1907 
9and 1908; they last appeared in the World Series in 1945; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Chicago Cubs compiled a record of 103 wins and  
1158 losses during the 2016 season; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Chicago Cubs fielded the entire starting 
13infield for the 2016 MLB All-Star Game; this marked the first 
14time a National League team had done so since 1963; they had

1seven players selected,  Jake Arrieta, Kris Bryant, Dexter 
2Fowler, Jon Lester, Anthony Rizzo, Addison Russell, and Ben 
3Zobrist; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Chicago Cubs won the division championship 
5with a 17.5 game lead; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Chicago Cubs eliminated the San Francisco 
7Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the playoffs to advance 
8to the World Series; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Chicago Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians in 
10a historic and dramatic World Series Game 7 that went into 
11extra innings, ending with a score of 8 to 7 in the 10th; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Chicago Cubs rallied from a deficit of three 
13games to one, a feat only accomplished by five other teams in 
14World Series history; and
 
15    WHEREAS, A victory parade and rally was held for the 
16Chicago Cubs on November 4, 2016, drawing five million fans, 
17making it the seventh largest known gathering in the history of 
18the world; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Chicago Cubs have the greatest and most loyal 
20fans in the world; with its historic scoreboard and green ivy,

1Wrigley Field is one of the greatest places to watch a ball 
2game; Manager Joe Maddon has said that "playing in Wrigley 
3Field is magical"; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Ricketts family, Crane Kenney and the entire 
5Cubs front office, and Theo Epstein should be praised for 
6bringing together such an amazing team and for setting the 
7Chicago Cubs  on a course for continued success for many years 
8to come; and
 
9    WHEREAS, On April 12, 2017, the players of the Chicago Cubs 
10will be presented with their World Series Championship Rings, 
11commemorating their historical 2016 season; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
13HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE 
14CONCURRING HEREIN, that we congratulate the Chicago Cubs on 
15winning the 2016 World Series; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That we congratulate Manager Joe Maddon on 
17guiding the Chicago Cubs to the championship with his zen 
18leadership, convincing both players and fans to look forward 
19not backwards, to think positively, and to "Do simple better"; 
20and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That we declare March 8, 2017 as "Chicago Cubs

1World Series Champions Day"; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That we declare April 12, 2017 as "Chicago Cubs 
3World Series Commemoration Day"; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
5presented to members of the Chicago Cubs organization.
