HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate John Brown on the occasion
4of his retirement from the Rock Island County Clerk's Office on
5April 28, 2017; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Brown was born to Joan (Kerres) and John
7Brown Sr. on October 16, 1951, the oldest of 10 children; he
8was the third generation to be a member of St. Joseph Catholic
9Church in Rock Island, and graduated from Alleman High School
10and Southern Illinois University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Brown began working elections in the 1970s by
12organizing Blackhawk Township for his father's successful
13supervisor candidacy, and since 1978, he has been a Democratic
14Precinct Committeeman; he first worked in the Rock Island
15County Clerk's office under John Gianulis beginning in 1982; he
16continued with County Clerk Dick Leibovitz until 1997, when he
17succeeded Carolyn Lund as supervisor of Rock Island Township,
18serving until 2013; in 2010, he re-joined the Rock Island
19County Clerk's office with Karen Kinney; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Brown is a strategic thinker who knows
21elections, from the rules and processes to the
22precinct-by-precinct results; he is the foremost expert in the

1area of administering elections; and
 
2    WHEREAS, John Brown is involved with many projects as chief
3deputy: cleaning up the voter files, civil unions and marriage
4equality, same-day voter registration, and improving early
5voting locations and availability; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Brown loves his cats; he enjoys gardening in
7his backyard and growing strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes,
8peppers, and spinach; he recently renovated his historical
9home; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate John Brown on his retirement from the Rock Island
13County Clerk's Office on April 28, 2017, and we wish him the
14best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to John Brown as an expression of our esteem and
17respect.
