HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Miki L.
4Pavelonis of Harrisburg, who passed away on May 1, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis was born in Harrisburg to Edward
6and Virginia James Gooch on September 22, 1942 and was raised
7by her grandfather, Alfred James, and her uncle, Windom Elo
8James; she attended Logan School, Malan Junior High School, and
9graduated from Harrisburg Township High School in 1960; she
10graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (SIUC)
11with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and Teaching; she
12received a full band scholarship with the SIUC Saluki's
13marching band as a featured twirler; she married her childhood
14sweetheart, Bob Pavelonis, while in college on December 22,
151963; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis taught baton twirling in nearby
17towns for many years; she began working in real estate and
18eventually formed her own real estate company, American
19Heritage Realty; she managed the Saline Valley Abstract office
20for a few years and then went on to work for three Illinois
21State Attorneys General, Neil Hartigan, Roland Burris, and Jim
22Ryan; for the next four years she worked in the Regional Office
23of Education in Harrisburg; and

1    WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis left the field of education to
2become the Director of Regional Services for State Comptroller,
3Dan Hynes, and spent the next 12 years there until her
4retirement in 2010; she was active in both State and national
5Democratic politics and was the first woman to be elected to
6the Saline County Board of Commissioners; she was also a
7superdelegate to future President Bill Clinton in Los Angeles,
8California; she served as a Democratic State Central
9Committeewoman for 10 years and hosted many dinners and rallies
10for the Democratic Party throughout her political work; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis was an active member of First
12Church of God in Harrisburg where she served as a trustee and
13as chairwoman of the ladies' organization; she was also a
14member of the Christian Woman Connection; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis was preceded in death by her
16parents; her uncle, Elo; her grandfather, Alfred; her
17mother-in-law, Bonnie L. Pavelonis; and her father-in-law, A.
18Joe Pavelonis; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis is survived by her husband, Bob;
20her children, Robert "Bobby" (Katy) Joseph Pavelonis, and
21Michael (Janice) Britt Pavelonis; her granddaughters, Lauren,
22Bonnie, and Ella; her grandson, Bobby III; her step-grandson,

1Reese Conkle; and her beloved Shelties, Redford and Trudy;
2therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5mourn the passing of Miki L. Pavelonis, and extend our sincere
6condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
7her; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Miki Pavelonis as an expression of
10our deepest sympathy.
