HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The tragic events that took place on August 12,
32017 in Charlottesville, Virginia prove that violence
4threatens the maintenance of social order and individual
5freedom; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Our nation was built on the idea that bigotry is
7the disease of ignorance and all men and women should be judged
8by the content of their character; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Extreme rhetoric can reverse improvements in race
10relations, divide the nation, and foment hatred; therefore, be
11it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14strongly denounce and oppose the violent terrorism, extreme
15rhetoric, and bigoted ideologies that are being promoted; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That we urge law enforcement to recognize this
18violence as domestic terrorism, and to pursue the criminal
19elements of these domestic terrorists in the same manner and
20with the same fervor used to protect the United States from
21other manifestations of terrorism; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
2delivered to the President of the United States, all members of
3the United States Senate, all members of the United States
4House of Representatives, the Governor of the State of
5Illinois, and all members of the Illinois General Assembly.
