2 | | WHEREAS, With 2,181 of highway miles, Illinois has the 3rd |
3 | | most mileage in the county; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Insufficient revenue to the funding mechanisms in |
5 | | place has taken a toll
on the infrastructure of the State; |
6 | | currently, 20% of roads in Illinois are considered to be in |
7 | | "poor"
condition and 31% are over 50 years old; it is estimated |
8 | | that by the year 2020, 40% of the roads will be in poor |
9 | | condition, as well as 20% of bridges; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, On February 12, 2018, President Trump revealed the |
11 | | federal infrastructure
plan, "Building America's |
12 | | Infrastructure"; the overarching theme of this plan is minimal |
13 | | federal
support; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, The federal plan assumes $1.5 trillion of |
15 | | potential investment in the country's
infrastructure systems |
16 | | with only $200 billion of federal support; this would keep the |
17 | | states and
local units of government on the hook for $1.3 |
18 | | trillion of investment; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Pushing 86.7% of the burden of funding the rapidly |
20 | | deteriorating
infrastructure system onto Illinois and the |
21 | | communities within its borders will not benefit this
State; |
