HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sister
4Lydia Mary Yokiel, C.R., who passed away on May 7, 2018, at the
5age of 104; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sister Yokiel was born in Wells, Minnesota on July
722, 1913; she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the
8Resurrection in August of 1931; she earned degrees in education
9and biology and studied in Rome for a year at Regina Mundi; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sister Yokiel taught and served as a principal in
11grade schools and high schools for 54 years; for 16 years she
12served at Resurrection College Prep High School as a biology
13teacher and as principal; she was instrumental in the planning
14of the current high school building that opened in 1962 and
15worked closely with the parents clubs and other community
16groups to raise funds for building the school and for
17continuing updates and modernization; after spending 54 years
18in education, she became a hospital chaplain and spent another
1916 years ministering at Our Lady of the Resurrection and
20Resurrection Medical Centers; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Sister Yokiel always held Resurrection College
22Prep High School close to her heart and supported the school in

1every way she could; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4mourn the passing of Sister Lydia Mary Yokiel, C.R., and extend
5our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
6knew and loved her; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Sister Yokiel as an expression of
9our deepest sympathy.
