Amends the Pharmacy Practice Act. Provides that, beginning on January 1, 2022, all prescriptions orders for drugs or medical devices must be electronically transmitted to the patient's pharmacy of choice. Requires the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to adopt rules governing the use of electronically transmitted prescription orders.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Pharmacy Practice Act is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 25.20 as follows: |
6 | | (225 ILCS 85/25.20) |
7 | | (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2018)

8 | | Sec. 25.20. Electronic visual image prescriptions. If a |
9 | | pharmacy's computer system can capture an unalterable |
10 | | electronic visual image of the prescription drug order, the |
11 | | electronic image shall constitute the original prescription |
12 | | and a hard copy of the prescription drug order is not required. |
13 | | The computer system must be capable of maintaining, printing, |
14 | | and providing, upon a request by the Department, the |
15 | | Department's compliance officers, and other authorized agents, |
16 | | all of the prescription information required by State law and |
17 | | regulations of the Department within 72 hours of the request.

18 | | Beginning on January 1, 2022, all prescriptions orders for |
19 | | drugs or medical devices, as defined in this Act, must be |
20 | | electronically transmitted to the patient's pharmacy of |
21 | | choice. The Department shall adopt rules governing the use of |
22 | | electronically transmitted prescription orders. |
