SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Army Specialist Anthony R. Maddox, 22, of Port
7Arthur, Texas died on July 22, 2013 at Landstuhl Regional
8Medical Center, Germany, of injuries that occurred in a
9noncombat incident during a fueling accident in Andar,
10Afghanistan; he was posthumously promoted to sergeant; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sergeant Maddox was assigned to 10th Brigade
12Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain
13Division, Fort Drum, New York and was serving during Operation
14Enduring Freedom; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Sergeant Maddox was born on November 15, 1990 to
16Glenda F. Key and Jerome Maddox Jr.; he graduated from
17Nederland High School in 2009, where he was a football star for
18the Bulldogs and whose fearsome field presence earned him the
19nickname "Mad Dog"; he joined the United States Army in 2011;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Sergeant Maddox approached everything he did in

1life with the energy and passion to do his best; therefore, be
2it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Interstate 55 as it
6travels from Exit 167 to Exit 171 in the city of Towanda as the
7"Sergeant Anthony R. Maddox Memorial Highway"; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
10is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
11State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
12giving notice of the name "Sergeant Anthony R. Maddox Memorial
13Highway"; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Sergeant Maddox, Towanda Mayor Tom
16Wagner, and the Secretary of Transportation.
