2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Dallas M. Burke of Godfrey, who passed |
4 | | away on January 27, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dallas Burke was born in Germantown, Wisconsin to |
6 | | Adolph and Beulah (Lied) Strack on November 9, 1926; she |
7 | | graduated from the cadet program at the St. Joseph School of |
8 | | Nursing and was the school nurse at Western Military Academy in |
9 | | Alton for a short time; she married Thomas J. "Bud" Burke Jr. |
10 | | in Alton on June 25, 1948; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Dallas Burke co-owned and operated the Burke |
12 | | Funeral Home in Alton and Grafton for many years with her |
13 | | husband; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Dallas Burke was the first female coroner elected |
15 | | in the State of Illinois, serving from 1972 until her |
16 | | retirement in 2000; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Dallas Burke was awarded the YWCA Woman of |
18 | | Distinction Award in 2002; and

19 | | WHEREAS, Dallas Burke was preceded in death by her parents; |
20 | | her husband, Thomas; and her son, Thomas J. "TJ" Burke III; and
