2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Helen Elizabeth Marlowe of Huntley, who |
4 | | passed away on March 3, 2017 at the age of 100; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Helen Marlowe was born on the family farm in |
6 | | Ringwood to Myrtle and C.L. Harrison on December 8, 1916; she |
7 | | graduated from McHenry High School and was the first ever |
8 | | McHenry County delegate to the National 4-H Conference in |
9 | | Washington, D.C.; she attended the American Conservatory of |
10 | | Music in Chicago as a student of music performance in trumpet, |
11 | | French horn, and marimba; she married Henry Marlowe in 1935; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Helen Marlowe and her husband established Marlowe |
14 | | Feed and Hatchery; after his passing in 1984, she operated the |
15 | | business until 1998; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Helen Marlowe was a member of First Congregational |
17 | | Church in Huntley, where she was a musician and organist; she |
18 | | co-founded and developed a handbell choir program for children, |
19 | | teens, and adults, which she instructed and directed for 42 |
20 | | years; she was a major donor to the church music program and |
21 | | was instrumental in the acquisition and installation of the |
22 | | pipe organ at First Congregational Church and the eight octaves |

1 | | of English-made handbells; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, In 1970, in conjunction with the White House |
3 | | Conference on Aging, Helen Marlowe was appointed Chairperson of |
4 | | the McHenry County Project on the needs of the elderly; she was |
5 | | an enthusiastic and creative 4-H leader working with young |
6 | | women for over 20 years; she also served as a member of the |
7 | | Board of Directors at the State Bank of Huntley; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Helen Marlowe was preceded in death by her |
9 | | husband, Henry; her son, Byron Marlowe; her sister, Amy Brener; |
10 | | her brothers, Frank and Alvin Harrison; and her baby brother; |
11 | | and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Helen Marlowe is survived by her children, |
13 | | Elizabeth Ann (George) Buchal, Lyle (Mary) Marlowe, Dean |
14 | | (Marge) Marlowe, and Faye Marlowe; her grandchildren, Craig, |
15 | | Julie, and Terri Marlowe, Michael Buchal, Carilu Buchal |
16 | | Robinson, Patrick and Christopher Marlowe, Bonnie Olson, Brian |
17 | | Marlowe, Carol Fiandalo, Marlowe Holden, and Taylor Holden; 14 |
18 | | great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and her |
19 | | sister, Carol Donahue; therefore, be it

21 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
