SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jackson R. "Dick" Smith of Moline, who
4passed away on June 18, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jackson Smith was born in Moline to Jackson J. and
6Ruth (Engh) Smith on June 25, 1921; he attended Moline
7Elementary School and graduated from Moline High School in
81939; he served in the United States Air Force from October of
91942 until February of 1945; he married Clara M. Van Nevel on
10April 25, 1946; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jackson Smith worked in construction and
12engineering at the Howard Steel Corporation until retiring
13after over 40 years of service; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jackson Smith was a member of the American Legion,
15the Moline Elks and the Optimist International Club; he was
16also a founding member of the Mill Creek Golf Club in Milan,
17now currently known as the Pinnacle Country Club; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jackson Smith enjoyed cars and dining out; he most
19enjoyed being outdoors, playing golf, spending time at his
20cabin on the Rock River, and wintering in Florida; and

1    WHEREAS, Jackson Smith was preceded in death by his loving
2wife, Clara; his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Duane
3and Georgia Smith; his brother-in-law, Andy Van Nevel; and his
4nephew, Bob Van Nevel; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jackson Smith is survived by his brother-in-law,
6Donald Van Nevel; his sister-in-law, Eleanor Van Nevel; his
7nieces and nephews, Peggy (Dan) Weisskopf, Steve (Vicki) Van
8Nevel, Patricia (Daman) Carter, Pam Van Nevel, Scott (Lanette)
9Van Nevel, Linda Roggentein, Susan (Mike) Rego, Bill (Kathy)
10Van Nevel, Jim (Tina) Van Nevel, Beth Smith, and Luke Smith;
11and his cousin, Terry Smith; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Jackson R. "Dick" Smith, and extend our sincere condolences to
15his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Jackson Smith as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
