SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Samuel E. "Bud" Palmer of McHenry, who
4passed away on August 5, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer was born in Chicago to Samuel E. and
6Lee (Ahls) Palmer on April 22, 1923; he attended Hinsdale
7Central High School; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer graduated from St. John's Military
9Academy and then the Citadel Military College in South
10Carolina, allowing him to enlist at the officer rank in the
11United States Air Force in 1944; during World War II, he was a
12decorated pilot and flew a B-25 Bomber in the 345th Bombardment
13Group "Air Apaches" for 23 missions; and
 
14    WHEREAS, After the war, Samuel Palmer graduated from the
15University of Miami School of Business Administration; he
16married Constance Sweeny on September 1, 1960 and adopted her
17daughter, Diane; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer was a paper broker by trade and went
19on to own his own paper company, Oak Lawn Paper Company; he did
20not retire until well into his 80s; and

1    WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer was a Master Mason, a 32nd Degree
2Mason, and a Shriner; he was also an avid golfer; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer was preceded in death by his
4parents; his sister, Mary Lee; and his brother, Briggs; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer is survived by his wife of 57 years,
6Connie; his daughter, Diane (Frank) Calabrese; his
7grandchildren, Frank E. Calabrese and Stevie Calabrese; his
8sister-in-law, Amy M. (the late Briggs) Palmer; his nephews,
9Reed (Teresa) Collingwood, Briggs (Peggy), Gregory (Ann
10Marie), and David (Kimberly) Palmer; his niece, Susan Preihs;
11and many great-nieces and nephews, Kristen Preihs, Nichole and
12Robert Collingwood, and Christofer, Jordan, Helen, John,
13Katharine, and Briggs Palmer; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Samuel E. "Bud" Palmer, and extend our sincere condolences to
17his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Samuel Palmer as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
