|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Samuel E. "Bud" Palmer of McHenry, who |
4 | | passed away on August 5, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer was born in Chicago to Samuel E. and |
6 | | Lee (Ahls) Palmer on April 22, 1923; he attended Hinsdale |
7 | | Central High School; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer graduated from St. John's Military |
9 | | Academy and then the Citadel Military College in South |
10 | | Carolina, allowing him to enlist at the officer rank in the |
11 | | United States Air Force in 1944; during World War II, he was a |
12 | | decorated pilot and flew a B-25 Bomber in the 345th Bombardment |
13 | | Group "Air Apaches" for 23 missions; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, After the war, Samuel Palmer graduated from the |
15 | | University of Miami School of Business Administration; he |
16 | | married Constance Sweeny on September 1, 1960 and adopted her |
17 | | daughter, Diane; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer was a paper broker by trade and went |
19 | | on to own his own paper company, Oak Lawn Paper Company; he did |
20 | | not retire until well into his 80s; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer was a Master Mason, a 32nd Degree |
2 | | Mason, and a Shriner; he was also an avid golfer; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer was preceded in death by his |
4 | | parents; his sister, Mary Lee; and his brother, Briggs; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Palmer is survived by his wife of 57 years, |
6 | | Connie; his daughter, Diane (Frank) Calabrese; his |
7 | | grandchildren, Frank E. Calabrese and Stevie Calabrese; his |
8 | | sister-in-law, Amy M. (the late Briggs) Palmer; his nephews, |
9 | | Reed (Teresa) Collingwood, Briggs (Peggy), Gregory (Ann |
10 | | Marie), and David (Kimberly) Palmer; his niece, Susan Preihs; |
11 | | and many great-nieces and nephews, Kristen Preihs, Nichole and |
12 | | Robert Collingwood, and Christofer, Jordan, Helen, John, |
13 | | Katharine, and Briggs Palmer; therefore, be it
|
14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
16 | | Samuel E. "Bud" Palmer, and extend our sincere condolences to |
17 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
18 | | further

19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 | | presented to the family of Samuel Palmer as an expression of |
21 | | our deepest sympathy.
