SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Samuel W. Haglund of Moline, who passed
4away on November 13, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Samuel Haglund was born in Princeton to Clara Neal
6and Carl Haglund on January 16, 1926; he married Virginia
7Pettifer Rossi in Moline on April 19, 1947; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Samuel Haglund worked for International Harvester
9Farmall in tractor repair, retiring in 1981 after 39 years;
10following his retirement, he continued to farm in Orion and
11work with the Henry County Road Commission; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Samuel Haglund was a member of St. Paul Lutheran
13Church in Orion, U.A.W. Local 2282 in Rock Island, Orion
14American Legion Post 255, and the Moline Turner's Club; he was
15a gifted woodworker and built homes, specializing in cabinetry
16and electrical work; he also built his home in Hawaii; he loved
17music and was a jazz enthusiast, especially enjoying Bix music;
18he enjoyed walking at the mall, playing golf, and listening to
19audio books; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Samuel Haglund proudly served in the United States
21Army in Okinawa under General Douglas MacArthur; he was honored

1to take part in the Honor Flight of the Quad-Cities and was
2proud of his brick at the Veteran's Memorial Park in Orion; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Samuel Haglund was preceded in death by his
4parents and his granddaughter, Theresa Anderson Abel; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Samuel Haglund is survived by his wife, Virginia;
6his children, Norma Lee (Donald) Anderson, Joseph (Marilyn)
7Rossi, Carol (Jim) McDermott, Samuel Neal (Jennifer) Haglund,
8and Marilyn (John) Phipps; 16 grandchildren; 37
9great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Samuel W. Haglund, and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Samuel Haglund as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
