SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jim Edward Gager of Moline, who passed
4away on November 24, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Gager was born in Moline to Edgar Clarence and
6Mary Viola Swim Gager on May 2, 1940; he graduated from United
7Township High School in 1958; he married Helen M. Pearson at
8Bethany Baptist Church in Moline on September 5, 1964; he
9received his bachelor's degree from Western Illinois
10University in 1967, his master's degree in 1978, and his
11Education Specialist Degree from Western Illinois University
12in 1981; he served active duty in the United States Navy
13Reserves as a GMG 2 on the USS Floyd B. Parks (DD884) in
14Vietnam in 1968; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jim Gager started his career teaching science at
16Wilson Junior High in 1969; he transferred to Moline High
17School in 1973 and taught Biology I and II and chemistry until
18he retired in 1999; he also taught in the Community Outreach
19Retention and Engagement program at Moline High School; he
20coached girls' basketball, boys' tennis, and videotaped
21varsity football and basketball games; he received the
22Dispatch-Argus Master Teacher Award in 1999; he was known as a
23creative, enthusiastic, motivational, and inspirational

1teacher; and
 
2    WHEREAS, After his retirement, Jim Gager worked part time
3as a travel agent and specialized in Hawaiian vacations; he was
4also the volunteer coordinator for the Quad City Symphony
5Orchestra and a Second Fiddle Sale Director; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jim Gager served as a youth sponsor, Bible
7teacher, vice chairman, deacon, trustee, and choir member at
8Bethany Baptist; he and Helen enjoyed traveling to Hawaii,
9often with friends or family; he also enjoyed woodworking; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jim Gager was preceded in death by his parents;
11his sister, Janet Gloria; his brother, Larry Gager; and his
12nieces, Linda Reeder and Kathy Atkinson; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jim Gager is survived by his wife, Helen; his
14sister-in-law, Virginia Gager; his brother-in-law, Arnulfo
15Gloria; his nieces, Vicki (James) Bongovanni and Michelle
16Gager; his nephews, Daniel (Mony) Johnson and Michael Gager;
17and his many great-nieces and nephews; he will also be missed
18by Frank and Virginia Ryner, their three daughters, Judy (Jeff)
19Donohue, Caryn (Bryant) Swanson, and Sandy (Kevin) Jones, and
20their children; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Jim Edward Gager and extend our sincere condolences to his
3family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Jim Gager as an expression of our
7deepest sympathy.
