SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of George Putnam Schermerhorn of Moline, who
4passed away on November 27, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was born on his family's farm
6in Chatfield, Minnesota to Freeman and Eva Williams
7Schermerhorn on September 11, 1923; he served in the U.S. Army
8in France during World War II and married Alice Shafer in East
9Moline on July 18, 1947; after her passing, he married Carol
10Kennedy Forsyth in Cancun, Mexico on April 17, 1984; and
 
11    WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was the owner of George P.
12Schermerhorn Insurance, a State Farm agency, for over 30 years,
13retiring in 1985; he previously worked for the East Moline Post
14Office and Prudential Insurance; and
 
15    WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was a member of Good Shepherd
16Presbyterian Church in Rock Island; Doric Lodge No. 319, AF &
17AM, Moline; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline; Kaaba
18Shrine Temple; and Moline American Legion Post No. 246; he was
19an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed golfing,
20traveling, and wintering in Arizona; and
 
21    WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was preceded in death by his

1first wife, Alice; his second wife, Carol; his daughter, Mary
2Melissa Howe; and his siblings, Glenn Schermerhorn, Helen
3Lundquist, Dorothy Ferrier, and Steven Schermerhorn; and
 
4    WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn is survived by his sister,
5Mary Carson; many nieces and nephews and their families; his
6stepdaughters, Kathleen (Jack) Reimers and Jeannine Forsyth
7and their families; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10George Putnam Schermerhorn, and extend our sincere condolences
11to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
12it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of George Schermerhorn as an expression
15of our deepest sympathy.
