2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Lisa McCarthy-Brooks, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | November 28, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lisa was born in Chicago to Franklin N. McCarthy | ||||||
6 | and Callie E. Tucker McCarthy on March 22, 1963; at an early | ||||||
7 | age, she exhibited independence, creativity, and | ||||||
8 | entrepreneurial skills; she attended Leif Erikson Grammar | ||||||
9 | School and graduated from Austin High School; she then attended | ||||||
10 | The University of Illinois and studied Child Development; she | ||||||
11 | married Ulus Brooks III on July 14, 1997; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lisa worked at Habilitative Systems, Inc. in | ||||||
13 | Chicago for 20 years; she was a licensed child care worker with | ||||||
14 | the Department of Children and Family Services; she was also | ||||||
15 | active in several beauty and health and wellness companies; she | ||||||
16 | excelled as a Platinum Gold Manager in Traci Lynn Fashion | ||||||
17 | Jewelry, as a National Director in 5Linx, and briefly with | ||||||
18 | ARIIX; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Lisa regularly attended church with her mother; | ||||||
20 | she was active in the Austin Baptist Church Choir and many | ||||||
21 | other church-related activities; she also attended and was | ||||||
22 | active as a choir member at New Faith Baptist Church |

1 | International in Matteson; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Lisa was preceded in death by her brother, | ||||||
3 | Michael; and her brother-in-law, Donnie Brooks; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Lisa is survived by her husband, Ulus III; her | ||||||
5 | children, Takeya, Callie, and Lamar; Darrell Jefferson, his | ||||||
6 | children, Sean and Cameron, and their mother, Lauren; her | ||||||
7 | siblings, Lyndia D. McCarthy, Deborah (Maurice) | ||||||
8 | McCarthy-Hosch, Glenn (Lala) McCarthy, Pattite McCarthy, and | ||||||
9 | Donald (Tracey) McCarthy; her nieces and nephews, Megan, | ||||||
10 | Jacqueline, Ashanti, Matthew, Melissa, Taren (Steve), Mariah, | ||||||
11 | Issac, Aaylaih, Nissa, Antonio, Glenn, Pebbles, Cody, Deisha, | ||||||
12 | Ethan, Kailee, and Timothy; her father-in-law, Ulus Brooks; her | ||||||
13 | mother-in-law, Dorothy Brooks; her sisters and | ||||||
14 | brothers-in-law, Gerri and Hugh Morris, Shirley and Vernal | ||||||

21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
22 | Lisa McCarthy-Brooks and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
23 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
