SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Philip J. Kennedy of Rock Island, who
4passed away on January 4, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Philip Kennedy was born in Rock Island to Joseph
6P. Kennedy and Anne Heidmann Kennedy; he attended schools in
7Rock Island and Davenport and graduated from St. Joseph High
8School; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Philip Kennedy enlisted in the United States Navy
10in 1942; he served active duty for 35 years; he participated in
11combat operations in World War II, in Korea, and in Vietnam; he
12served on 12 naval ships; he was awarded several combat-related
13medals and commendations; he was what is known in the Navy as a
14"Mustang"; he retired as a Commander, USN in 1977; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Philip Kennedy was a member of St. Mary Catholic
16Church; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Philip Kennedy was preceded in death by his
18sister, Mary Ellen Stoker; and an infant son; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Philip Kennedy is survived by his wife of 73
20years, Virginia Naab Kennedy; his son, Timothy; his daughters,

2great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Philip J. Kennedy and extend our sincere condolences to his
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Philip Kennedy as an expression of
10our deepest sympathy.
