SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Deacon Philip Patrick Sailer of Rock
4Island, who passed away on January 31, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deacon Philip Sailer was born in St. Augustine to
6Claire and Margaret Kennedy Sailer on January 20, 1933; he
7graduated from Marmion Academy in Aurora, and he then attended
8St. Norbert's College; he served in the United States Army
9during the Korean Conflict; he received his bachelor's degree
10and his master's degree from Western Illinois University; he
11married Margaret F. "Marge" Tornabane in Fort Dodge, Iowa on
12July 25, 1960; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Deacon Philip Sailer began his long and
14distinguished career at St. Edmond's Catholic High School in
15Fort Dodge in 1959; he joined the staff of Alleman High School
16when he and his wife relocated to Rock Island in 1961; during
17his 47 years at Alleman, he taught, coached, and served as a
18counselor; he retired from teaching in 2009; he was ordained as
19a Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Peoria and assigned to
20St. Pius in 1997; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Deacon Phil Sailer was a member of St. Pius X
22Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Allouez 658

1Council; his life was his family, his church, and his students;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Deacon Philip Sailer was preceded in death by his
4parents; his sisters, Sister Andre Sailer, Ann Pica, and
5Kathleen Boone; and his brother, Thomas Sailer; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Deacon Philip Sailer is survived by his wife,
7Marge; his daughters, Mary Jo (Robert) Marriott, Lisa (Scot)
8Wilkins, Christine Vretis, and Patty Aldridge; his
9grandchildren, Brianne (Matt) Barr, Zachary Neuerburg, Brooke
10Marriott, Baylee Marriott, Andre Marriott, Sam Wilkins, Luke
11Wilkins, Angelica Vretis, Annalise Baird, and Philip Baird; his
12great-grandson, Maxwell Barr; and his many nieces and nephews;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Deacon Philip Patrick Sailer and extend our sincere condolences
17to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Deacon Philip Sailer as an
21expression of our deepest sympathy.
