2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Donna Ruth Kuhlman of Savoy, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on December 19, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman was born in Galesburg to Floyd and | ||||||
6 | Doris Walker on June 2, 1938 and raised on a farm in Knox | ||||||
7 | County; growing up, she was active in 4-H and won numerous | ||||||
8 | county and state awards for sewing and cooking; she was awarded | ||||||
9 | the 4-H Key Club Award for her outstanding projects and | ||||||
10 | activities; she graduated from Western Illinois University | ||||||
11 | with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and married Don | ||||||
12 | Kuhlman in Galva on June 24, 1962; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman was employed as an Assistant Home | ||||||
14 | Adviser in Adams County by the University of Illinois | ||||||
15 | Cooperative Extension Service; she taught high school in | ||||||
16 | Gillespie from 1961 to 1962; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman was an excellent cook and seamstress | ||||||
18 | and judged sewing projects at the Illinois State Fair for | ||||||
19 | several years; she also collected cookbooks and thousands of | ||||||
20 | recipes and enjoyed preparing many delicious meals for her | ||||||
21 | family and friends; she was outgoing and enjoyed helping | ||||||
22 | others; she was an avid Illini football and basketball fan; she |

1 | and Don had season tickets for 50 years and traveled to | ||||||
2 | football games in every Big 10 football stadium; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman was a member of the First | ||||||
4 | Presbyterian Church of Champaign; she served as a | ||||||
5 | Congregational Care Deacon and was a member of the Circle of | ||||||
6 | Joy, Prayer Ministry Team, and Pakistan Study Group; she served | ||||||
7 | as a 4-H Club leader in Montgomery County and a Cub Scout | ||||||
8 | leader in Champaign; she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, | ||||||
9 | where she served as an officer; she was a member of the | ||||||
10 | Champaign-Urbana Home Economists, where she served as | ||||||
11 | treasurer from 2003 to 2006; she was also a member of the | ||||||
12 | Women's Club at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; | ||||||
13 | and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman enjoyed flowers and birds, | ||||||
15 | especially cardinals; at various times, she had six to eight | ||||||
16 | different types of bird feeders, including one that she | ||||||
17 | fashioned herself that was very effective in protecting seed | ||||||
18 | and birds from predators; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman accompanied her husband to | ||||||
20 | Peshawar, Pakistan from 1992 to 1994, where Don worked on a | ||||||
21 | project funded by USAID; she enjoyed living in Pakistan and | ||||||
22 | made many Pakistani friends; she and Don enjoyed traveling to | ||||||
23 | Egypt, India, Thailand, China, Eastern Europe, Europe, Africa, |

1 | and throughout the U.S.; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman and Don celebrated her 70th birthday | ||||||
3 | on June 2nd on a cruise to Alaska; while in Alaska, they flew | ||||||
4 | in a ski plane around Mt. McKinley and landed on Ruth Glacier; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman was preceded in death by her | ||||||
7 | parents; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman is survived by her sons, David and | ||||||
9 | Daniel Kuhlman, and numerous cousins; therefore, be it
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
12 | Donna Ruth Kuhlman, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
13 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
14 | further

15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of Donna Kuhlman as an expression of | ||||||
17 | our deepest sympathy.
