2 | | WHEREAS, Service to others is a hallmark of the American |
3 | | character, and central to how we
meet our challenges; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, The nation's counties, cities, and local |
5 | | governments are increasingly turning to national service and |
6 | | volunteerism as a cost-effective strategy to meet their needs; |
7 | | and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, AmeriCorps and Senior Corps participants address |
9 | | the most pressing challenges
facing our communities, from |
10 | | educating students for the jobs of the 21st century, to |
11 | | fighting the
opioid epidemic, to responding to natural |
12 | | disasters, to supporting veterans and military
families; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, National service expands economic opportunity by |
14 | | creating more sustainable,
resilient communities and providing |
15 | | education, career skills, and leadership abilities for those
|
16 | | who serve; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, AmeriCorps and Senior Corps participants serve in |
18 | | more than 50,000 locations
across the country, bolstering the |
19 | | civic, neighborhood, and faith-based organizations that are so
|
20 | | vital to our economic and social well-being; and |
|

1 | | WHEREAS, National service participants increase the impact |
2 | | of the organizations they serve,
both through their direct |
3 | | service and by managing millions of additional volunteers; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, National service represents a unique |
5 | | public-private partnership that invests in
community solutions |
6 | | and leverages non-federal resources to strengthen community |
7 | | impact and
increase the return on taxpayer dollars; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, National service participants demonstrate |
9 | | commitment, dedication, and patriotism
by making an intensive |
10 | | commitment to service, a commitment that remains with them in |
11 | | their
future endeavors; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, The Corporation for National and Community |
13 | | Service shares a priority with local leaders nationwide to |
14 | | engage citizens, improve lives, and strengthen communities; it |
15 | | is
joining with the National League of Cities, the National |
16 | | Association of Counties, Cities of
Service, and local leaders |
17 | | across the country for National Service Recognition Day on |
18 | | April 3,
2018; therefore, be it

19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize April 3, |
21 | | 2018 as National Service Day in the State of Illinois, and we |
22 | | encourage citizens to recognize the positive impact of national |
