1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The Illinois National Guard consists of over | ||||||
3 | 13,000 of the best and brightest citizens of the
State of | ||||||
4 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The Illinois National Guard honorably serves the | ||||||
6 | State and has helped keep our State safe
during floods, | ||||||
7 | snowstorms, tornados, and disasters, both natural and | ||||||
8 | man-made, since its inception; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, The Illinois National Guard has honorably served | ||||||
10 | in the ongoing War on Terror since America
was attacked on | ||||||
11 | September 11, 2001; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The Illinois National Guard's state mission is "To | ||||||
13 | provide trained and disciplined forces for
domestic | ||||||
14 | emergencies or as otherwise provided by state law"; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The citizens of the State of Illinois are best | ||||||
16 | protected from disasters, both natural and manmade,
by having | ||||||
17 | the soldiers of the Illinois National Guard remain standing | ||||||
18 | watch within our State,
instead of stationed at the Mexican | ||||||
19 | border; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, No foreign army is amassed at our country's |

1 | southern borders, threatening invasion; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Governor Bruce Rauner indicated that he would be | ||||||
3 | open to sending the soldiers of the Illinois
National Guard | ||||||
4 | 1,000 miles away to serve in a federal capacity, guarding the | ||||||
5 | border with Mexico; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The safety and security of the citizens of the | ||||||
7 | State of Illinois, along with the safety and security
of our | ||||||
8 | National Guard members, must take precedence over the political | ||||||
9 | aspirations of our
executive branch; therefore, be it
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge Governor Bruce | ||||||
12 | Rauner to put the safety and security of the citizens of the | ||||||
13 | State of Illinois first and
not deploy the soldiers and airmen | ||||||
14 | of the Illinois National Guard to the Mexican border; and be it | ||||||
15 | further
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | delivered to Governor Bruce Rauner and Major
General Richard J. | ||||||
18 | Hayes Jr., Adjutant General of Illinois.
