2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Lawrence Eugene "Larry" Bertino of Laguna |
4 | | Hills, California, who passed away on April 26, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Larry Bertino was born to Peter and Jennie |
6 | | (Vernizzi) Bertino on February 21, 1932; the eighth of ten |
7 | | children, he was raised in Channahon until, at age 14, he left |
8 | | home to join the Monastery at Mt. Carmel in Niagara Falls, |
9 | | Ontario, Canada; in 1952, he left the monastery and joined the |
10 | | United States Air Force and served as a linguist during the |
11 | | Korean War; he then attended UCLA and earned degrees in |
12 | | engineering and Slavic languages; he also attended Loyola |
13 | | University in Los Angeles and earned his law degree; he married |
14 | | Ruth Marie Tucker in 1981, and they settled in Laguna Hills, |
15 | | California; and

16 | | WHEREAS, Larry Bertino began his career at McDonald Douglas |
17 | | Aerospace, where he sold aircraft around the world; for a time, |
18 | | he practiced law at his own firm and with the firm of Rutan and |
19 | | Tucker in Newport Beach, California; he eventually returned to |
20 | | McDonald Douglas, where he worked until his retirement; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Larry Bertino and his wife were actively involved |
22 | | in the Laguna Hills Cityhood Committee; he was also on the |
