2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Wilson Frost of Chicago, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on May 5, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Wilson Frost was born in Cairo on December 27, | ||||||
6 | 1925; he earned his bachelor's degree from Fisk University in | ||||||
7 | 1950; he then attended Chicago-Kent College of Law and earned | ||||||
8 | his Juris Doctor in 1958; he later studied at DePaul | ||||||
9 | University's Lawyer's Institute; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, After graduating from Fisk, Wilson Frost was hired | ||||||
11 | by the Postal Transportation Service as a clerk, where he | ||||||
12 | remained until 1952; he then left to work as a statistician at | ||||||
13 | Provident Hospital; after earning his law degree, he joined the | ||||||
14 | firm of Frost, Sherard, Howse & Coleman, where he continued on | ||||||
15 | as a partner until 1973; that year, he left to form Meyer & | ||||||
16 | Frost, which later became Frost & Greenblatt; he remained there | ||||||
17 | until his retirement in 1998; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Wilson Frost became active in Chicago politics in | ||||||
19 | 1967 when he was elected alderman of the 21st Ward; in 1971, he | ||||||
20 | was elected alderman of the 34th Ward, and in 1976, he was | ||||||
21 | serving as the president pro tem of the City Council when | ||||||
22 | longtime mayor Richard J. Daley passed away; he pointed out |

1 | that under existing law, he was to become the new mayor; the | ||||||
2 | other aldermen disagreed, and after the course of several | ||||||
3 | meetings, he was kept out of the mayor's seat and instead named | ||||||
4 | chairman of the Finance Committee of the City Council; | ||||||
5 | following that incident, he continued to serve the city and | ||||||
6 | retired as the commissioner of the Cook County Board of Tax | ||||||
7 | Appeals in 1998; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, During his many years of public service, Wilson | ||||||
9 | Frost was honored by many organizations, including the Original | ||||||
10 | Forty Club, which awarded him the Man of the Year Award in 1974 | ||||||
11 | and the Illinois House of Representatives, which upon his | ||||||
12 | retirement, issued a resolution praising his work; he also | ||||||
13 | actively served several organizations, including the John | ||||||
14 | Marshall School of Law, Mercy Hospital Medical Center, and the | ||||||
15 | City Club of Chicago, where he was vice president; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Wilson Frost and his wife had four children; | ||||||
17 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Wilson Frost and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
21 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |

2 | deepest sympathy.
