SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Chester C. VanDeVelde of Moline, who
4passed away on September 24, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Chester VanDeVelde was born in Sheffield to
6Charles and Emily (VanDeHandy) VanDeVelde on April 21, 1918; he
7served in the United States Army 36th Infantry Division during
8World War II and received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the
9Soldier's Medal; he married Juliette E. VanKerrebroeck in 1947;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Chester VanDeVelde worked as a precision grinder
12at the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Chester VanDeVelde was a member of Sacred Heart
14Church, the Ex-Servicemen's Club, the Center for Belgian
15Culture, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Friends
16Circle Club in Moline; he enjoyed needle pointing, carpentry,
17playing cards, the Chicago Cubs, and winning at rolle bolle;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Chester VanDeVelde was preceded in death by his
20parents and his wife of 66 years, Juliette; and

1    WHEREAS, Chester VanDeVelde is survived by his daughter,
2Patricia Tjelmeland; his son, Thomas VanDeVelde; his five
3grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren; and his sister,
4Margie VanKerrebroeck; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Chester C. VanDeVelde and extend our sincere condolences to his
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Chester VanDeVelde as an expression
12of our deepest sympathy.
