SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harry A. Peterson of Rock Island, who
4passed away on October 30, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harry Peterson was born in Moline to Axel and
6Jennie Munson Peterson on December 13, 1922; he served in the
7United States Army Air Corps as a squadron navigator in the
8South Pacific during World War II and earned the Distinguished
9Flying Cross and the Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; he
10married Marion Yager in Moline on August 24, 1946; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Harry Peterson worked as an educator in the Rock
12Island School District for 41 years as a teacher, assistant
13principal, and principal; he was a past president of the Rock
14Island Education Association; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Harry Peterson was a proud, lifelong resident of
16Rock Island and was active in the community; he was an active
17member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Island; as a
18veteran, he traveled on an Honor Flight of the Quad Cities and
19said it was an experience of a lifetime; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Harry Peterson was handy and built his own house
21in Rock Island and also helped family members with their own

1homes; he was part of the cabin house build in Michigan on the
2Upper Peninsula; this cabin was a favorite place to gather with
3family and friends; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and
4a cribbage player; he enjoyed spending time with his family,
5especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Harry Peterson was preceded in death by his wife,
7Marion; his parents; his brother, George Peterson; and his
8sister, Ruby Trich; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Harry Peterson is survived by his children,
10Deborah (James) Braet, Christine (Saad) Ahmed, Bruce (Sherry)
11Peterson, Pamela (Stephen) Saunders, Nan Hasenberg, Thomas
12(Phyllis) Peterson, and James (Jennifer) Peterson; his
13grandchildren, Kristin (Jeff) Stiefvater and their children,
14Hayes and Abby, Craig (Kelly) Braet and their children,
15Katelyn, Kelsey, and Clayton, Noah (Rachel) Ahmed and their
16son, Noah, Kyle (Divya) Peterson and their children, Shiv,
17Dhruv, and Naina, Brett Peterson, Todd (Emily) Peterson and
18their son, Jensen, Kina Peterson, Fuzzy (Liz) Saunders and
19their children, Alaina and Jack, Cameron Saunders, Bryan
20Saunders, Alison (Nick) Boisvert, Luke Hasenberg, Lisa
21Hasenberg, Emily Peterson, Matthew Peterson, Elias (Sarah)
22Peterson and their daughter, Katie, and Brady, Sam, and Will
23Peterson; his special friend and caregiver, Nancy Patton; and
24his many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews;

1therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Harry A. Peterson and extend our sincere condolences to his
5family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Harry Peterson as an expression of
9our deepest sympathy.
