SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Paul William Bergeson of Batavia, who
4passed away on December 10, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson was born in Batavia to Paul and
6Hazel (Klingberg) Bergeson on September 20, 1927; he graduated
7from Batavia High School in 1945, where he was class president
8and a track and field star, and attended Illinois State
9University; he married his high school sweetheart, Ethyl
10Johnson, in Batavia on August 21, 1948; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson started his teaching career in 1950
12at St. Charles High School, where he taught economics and
13government; he later became the athletic director and head
14coach for track and field and cross country; he retired from
15St. Charles High School in 1988 following 38 years of service;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson was honored by the school by having
18a regional track meet named as the Paul Bergeson Invitational;
19he was inducted into the Illinois Athletic Directors Hall of
20Fame and the St. Charles East High School Athletic Hall of
21Fame; and

1    WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson was affectionately known as
2"Peeler" for his passion of fishing and the use of crawfish
3which he would peel and use as bait; he also liked to camp,
4hike, and bird watch; he was a member of the National Audubon
5Society, a devoted family man, an avid outdoorsman, and a
6teacher in every sense of the word; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson was preceded in death by his
8parents; his daughter, Barbara Schoo; and his brothers, Richard
9and Raymond Bergeson; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Paul Bergeson is survived by his loving, Ethyl;
11his children, Bill (Carli) Bergeson, David (Brenda) Bergeson,
12Carol (Al) Yunkes, and Susan Bergeson; eight grandchildren; and
13seven great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Paul William Bergeson and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Paul Bergeson as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
