SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
35 ILCS 200/5-15

    Amends the Property Tax Code. Provides that upon establishing the compensation of board of review employees fixed by the county board, the county shall, at all times, ensure that each of the commissioners on the board of review receives equitable resources and staffing. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning revenue.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Property Tax Code is amended by changing
5Section 5-15 as follows:
 
6    (35 ILCS 200/5-15)
7    Sec. 5-15. Board employees. In counties with 3,000,000 or
8more inhabitants, the board of appeals (until the first Monday
9in December 1998 and the board of review beginning on the first
10Monday in December 1998 and thereafter) shall appoint a Chief
11Clerk, a Secretary, and a deputy in charge of complaints. The
12Board may also employ deputies and other staff as may be
13necessary to assist the Board in the proper discharge of its
14duties. The Chief Clerk, the Secretary and the deputies shall
15have authority to administer oaths and examine under oath those
16persons who appear for a hearing. The Board may assign any
17matter to a deputy for preliminary hearing. With respect to
18applications for exemption reviewed under Section 16-130, the
19Secretary shall prepare and forward to the Department a full
20and complete statement of all the facts together with documents
21in each case and shall also forward a statement of the facts to
22the county assessor. Except as provided in Section 9-85, in all
23other instances the board shall certify its action and orders

1to the county assessor and the county assessor shall carry out
2the orders under the direction of the board. Employees of the
3board of appeals (until the first Monday in December 1998 and
4the board of review beginning on the first Monday in December
51998 and thereafter) shall receive compensation fixed by the
6county board upon the recommendation of the board, payable from
7the county treasury. Upon establishing the compensation of
8board of review employees fixed by the county board, the county
9shall, at all times, ensure that each of the commissioners on
10the board of review receives equitable resources and staffing.

13    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
14becoming law.
