SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
720 ILCS 5/31-2 new

    Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Provides that a person commits public safety remote aerial interference when he or she knowingly operates an unmanned aerial vehicle intended to obstruct or interfere with the performance by one known to the person to be a peace officer, firefighter, emergency responder, or member of a search and rescue team who is performing or attempting to perform his of her official duties. This offense is a Class A misdemeanor. A second or subsequent violation is a Class 4 felony.

1    AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Criminal Code of 2012 is amended by adding
5Section 31-2 as follows:
 
6    (720 ILCS 5/31-2 new)
7    Sec. 31-2. Public safety remote aerial interference.
8    (a) In this Section, "unmanned aerial vehicle" means a
9vehicle or device that uses aerodynamic forces to achieve
10flight and is piloted remotely.
11    (b) A person commits public safety remote aerial
12interference when he or she knowingly operates an unmanned
13aerial vehicle intended to obstruct or interfere with the
14performance by one known to the person to be a peace officer,
15firefighter, emergency responder, or member of a search and
16rescue team who is performing or attempting to perform his of
17her official duties.
18    (c) Sentence. Public safety remote aerial interference is a
19Class A misdemeanor. A second or subsequent violation is a
20Class 4 felony.
