SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/2-3.182 new

    Amends the School Code. Requires the State Board of Education to develop and implement a School Share Table Program, including guidelines for the use of share tables in schools for kindergarten through grade 12. Provides that the Program shall be implemented as a part of any school-based child nutrition program administered by the State Board. Requires guidelines for the use of share tables to be made available on the website of the State Board on or before January 1, 2021. Provides for the adoption of rules. Requires the use of share tables to comply with any applicable local and State health and food safety requirements. Defines "share tables". Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
52-3.182 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/2-3.182 new)
7    Sec. 2-3.182. School Share Table Program. The State Board
8of Education shall develop and implement a School Share Table
9Program, including guidelines for the use of share tables in
10schools for kindergarten through grade 12. The Program shall be
11implemented as a part of any school-based child nutrition
12program administered by the State Board. The guidelines for the
13use of share tables established under this Section shall be
14made available on the website of the State Board on or before
15January 1, 2021. The State Board may adopt rules necessary for
16the implementation and administration of the Program
17established under this Section. The use of share tables as
18provided under this Section shall comply with any applicable
19local and State health and food safety requirements.
20    For the purposes of this Section, "share tables" means
21tables or stations to which students may return whole food or
22beverage items that they choose not to consume, allowing those
23food and beverage items to then be made available for students

1who may want additional servings or otherwise donated to local
2food donation centers.
 
3    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
4becoming law.
