HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Private First Class Andrew N. Meari was assigned
3to service in Afghanistan as a member of 1st Battalion, 502nd
4Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne
5Division (Air Assault); and
 
6    WHEREAS, While guarding an entrance point to Combat Outpost
7Senjaray on November 1, 2010, PFC Meari and a comrade
8intercepted a motorcycle-riding, explosive-armed suicide
9bomber who was trying to get into the American combat camp; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Upon being intercepted, the suicide bomber
11detonated himself, killing himself and two Americans,
12including PFC Meari; and
 
13    WHEREAS, PFC Meari was killed in action in Afghanistan on
14November 1, 2010 under circumstances that saved multiple lives
15in the combat outpost that was under attack; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The memory of PFC Meari and his heroic service is
17commemorated by his neighbors with PFC Andrew Meari Memorial
18Park, located in his home town of Plainfield; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE

1SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of
2Illinois Route 59 from Caton Farm Road to Illinois Route 126 as
3the "PFC Andrew Meari Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
5be requested to erect, at suitable locations consistent with
6State and Federal regulations, an appropriate plaque or signs
7giving notice of the name "PFC Andrew Meari Memorial Highway";
8and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
10presented to Denise Williams of Plainfield, the mother of
11Private First Class Andrew N. Meari, and the Secretary of the
12Illinois Department of Transportation.
