| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to honor our esteemed colleague, |
| 4 | | State Representative Daniel J. Burke, on his 28 years as a |
| 5 | | member of the Illinois General Assembly and to thank him for |
| 6 | | his dedicated service to our State and his community; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Representative Burke was born and raised on the |
| 8 | | South Side of Chicago, the son of the late Alderman Joseph P. |
| 9 | | Burke and Ann G. Burke, brother to Alderman Edward M. Burke and |
| 10 | | the late Chicago Police Officer Joseph P. Burke; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Representative Burke comes from a family with |
| 12 | | strong ties to the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois, |
| 13 | | but he has forged his own path while continuing his family's |
| 14 | | legacy of public service; he has served as the Assistant |
| 15 | | Majority Leader for the House Democratic Caucus for 12 years; |
| 16 | | he has held the position of Chairman of the House Executive |
| 17 | | Committee for the last 22 years; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Representative Burke has served as a mentor and |
| 19 | | confidante to many of his colleagues, past and present, for the |
| 20 | | last two decades; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, In the Legislature, Representative Burke has been |
|

| 1 | | a steady and forceful voice for immigrants, children, police |
| 2 | | officers, and fire fighters as well as an advocate for animal |
| 3 | | rights; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Among the notable bills he championed is the |
| 5 | | Colleen O'Sullivan Law, which was enacted during the 93rd |
| 6 | | General Assembly; after a young former Statehouse Attorney lost |
| 7 | | her life due to shockable cardiac arrest while training for the |
| 8 | | Chicago Marathon, O'Sullivan's family and friends enlisted |
| 9 | | Representative Burke to help fight for a law requiring public |
| 10 | | venues to have automated external defibrillators and to expand |
| 11 | | life-saving training; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Representative Burke always carried himself as a |
| 13 | | consummate statesman, and those close to him will always |
| 14 | | remember him as a caring friend, a talented piano player, and |
| 15 | | the best dog dad; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 17 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 18 | | we congratulate and honor State Representative Daniel J. Burke |
| 19 | | for his dedicated service as a member of the Illinois House of |
| 20 | | Representatives, and we wish him the best in his future |
| 21 | | endeavors; and be it further
